Dan Nitz has devoted his entire life to grape growing, carrying on a proud family tradition that stretches back seven generations. His family has farmed in southwest Michigan since 1893, and Dan has continued to apply the invaluable lessons passed down to him through the years. Every grape he grows is a testament to his passion and dedication, ensuring that nothing is left to chance and that every last grape reaches its full potential. We invite you to share in our family’s rich history, one glass at a time. So come along on this journey with us and discover the magic of our vineyards.
Our vineyard, situated on the fabled “perfect” 42nd parallel, enjoys the fertile shore, winds, and weather of Lake Michigan. Our location and proximity to Lake Michigan, creates what we think is an exceptional microclimate for a vineyard. Which is probably what spoke to, Henry Nitz, over a century ago. Follow the 42nd parallel around the world, and you’ll find many of the world’s great vineyards.
When it comes to Ice Wine, the conditions are even better. Our grapes endure the biting winds off of Lake Michigan and relentless cold until their essence is imprisoned by frost, glistening on the vines, like frozen jewels.
In a world where the mundane often dominates, our wines stand as a testament to excellence, a direct result of seven generations’ unwavering expertise. Quality is our compass, guiding every step of our journey. From grape to glass, we infuse each bottle with a legacy of knowledge and passion that spans decades.
